WELLINGTON, -August 5. The establishment and conduct of a State lottery in New Zealand, is rfrged in a petition from K. I. Clarke, of Wellington, and 2015 others, presented in the House of Representatives today by Mr. O. H. Chapman (Labour, Wellington Central). The petitioners are mainly fronv ^Wellington and suburbs, Auckland and suburbS;,aUd Hastings. The petitioners stated tnat the prohibition' of lotferies imposed by the 'Gaming Act, had been detrimental to' the interests of the inhabitants of New Zealand. This legislation had not prevented partieipation by New Zealanders in overseas lotteries and this had created disrespeet for the law and its administration.
