Scout Committee Reviews Year's Work
The annual meetirig of the Levin Boy Scouts' Committee was hel'd on Wednesday.night,. Mr, H. Palmer presiding. There was a fair d.ttendance and numerous apologies were received. In opening the meeting, the chairman thanked thSse' present fo their attendance, and. said that the size of the gathering indicated that interest ip. the scout movement was still keen. In his. annual repojrt, Mr,. Palmer mentioned that the .movement had shown progress diking the past twelve months. The interest taken by the scouts and cubs. in theii work reflected gteat credit on those m charge, . - "Early in, the year we unfortuiiately lost the vaiued service's of Mr. W: B'enfell as' scoiftmaster," continued . the report. '.'Bte had been scoutmaster for a considerable perio'd. The committee accepted his resignation with regret and placed on record its appreciation of his work. during the war and postwar years. Trim to .fi.ll the positioh asA acting - scoutmakterj -and un-der his guidance the three jamboree scouts have. taken charee and 'evince keen
interest in their work as leaders; Cubriiaster B. Blehkhorh ;and ' her assis£ants h'ave rendered goo'd work and' have maihtairied a high standard in the ciib packs. . ' "Scouting sufferefi a severe blow during the infantile paralysis epidemic, and it was found liecessary to cancel the weekly parades and the... annual ; camp . . at . N ew Y ear . This camp was heM'puHrig Easter and proved very succ'essful. I regret to report that' we are losing the services of our .secf etary, Mr. S. R. P. Small, who, for . health reason's,- finds it^.impossible to continue with the Work. Mr. Small has proved a good secretary and we regret very much iosing his services. "Special thanks are due to thfe ladies of the committee,. who organised a most successful shop day during the year.. My sincere thanks are due to Mrs. M. Blenkhorn, the deputy chairman, for her help and guidance during the past twelve months when I have occupied the chair," In conclusion, Mr. Palmer ext'ended his thanks to all members of- the committee for their assistance during the year. The strehgth of the cub paek was now 63, repofted Cubmaster B. Blenkhorn.. During the year 36 boy's had: joined the cubs. Throughout the year the boys. had had extensive training in cub work, which had encouraged ..them. to reach their- maximum. eflfl'ciency Ifi regard- to. star work and ba,dges. A report on. the scouting activities, ptesehted' by Assistant Scoutfnastcr T. Hudsoh, was also adopted by the meeting. It stated that the. scouts had some definite projects on hand for the .coming year. One of these was a plan- for a new hut,-. which w'ould be presented at the next committee. meeting. The - formation of •a senior- scout troop in Levin was lin hand, as it was felt that inter:est in the movement waned after th'e boys reached a certain age. A senior patrol would have the effect of holding the boys to the movement, and if was probable that the troop would be formed very shortly. There were 35 scouts in the ordinary troop at present, the report cohcluded. The report - and balance sheet, presented by Mr. H. Allwood, showed a. balance on ,the year's working of £125 5s 4d. Commenting, the chaitmaii said that the . finances were in a healthy state. E. Hudson; deputy-.chairman : Mrs. M. Blenkhorn; secretary: Mr, H. Allwood; committee: Mesdames W. Walker, E. Harvey, L. Travers, W. J. Guinan, Jackson, Keegan, V. E. Hudson, G. Doyle, W. Gtant, A. Shaw, M. Hannan, H. Judd and H. Wenham, and MesSrs. R. A. Frederikson, W. Walker, H. Palmer, L. Travers, W. Benfell, Keegan, H. Judd, A. Hannah and A. C- Kennerley. Warrants were received for appointments to the positions of assistant scoutmasters and assistant cubmasters 'as follows: — Assistant cubmasters R. D. Judd, J. R. Spencer, 15. M. Bubb and. I. A. Potter. Assistant scoutmasters: T. W. Hudson, S. W. Small and B. A. Allwood, These will be presented on an appropriate occasion.
