INVEECAKGILL, August 4. The Australian hockey team defeated Southland by two goals to nil today. It was not a brilliant exhibition but the heavy'state of the ground was partlv responsible. The Australians did not field their best team but allowing for that, the opinion held.on today's form is that they are unlikely to beat New Zealand on a dry ground. t The visitors were on the attack nearly flie 'if'H&le of t'H (t1 fi i'st fitalf diut' So'uthland defence was ^ood.
