Levin Farm's First Ball A Colourful Function

That the staff of the Levin Farm had spared no effort to make ther first annual ba'll an event to be remembered in dancing circles was evident last night to the exceptionally large crowd whiph attended the function. That the danoers them-" selves were out to do full justice to the occasion was shown -by the gay party atmosphere which prevailed throughout the night, and the many charming frocks which were worn.

Wearing a piqturesque floral lace frock with a delphinium ' shoulder spray and white coatee, Matron M. L. Cowan received the guests, who included the president of the Levin Women's Institute, Mrs. Kellaway, who wore a black velvet frock, Mrs. N. Armstrong, of Titahi Bay, white lace blouse and black net sequined skirt, and Miss M. Alexander, of Napier, who wore black net over pink satin. 'Also iq the official party was Mrs. J. Gilbert, wife of the officer-in-charge, wearing floral silk with peplum and V neck. Three nurses on the staff who hail from the United Kingdom were Misses N. Nisbet, wearing red' velvet with white net skirt, K. Nisbet, white velvet top. with sky blue full skirt, and T. Hugh.es, pink -satin top with black net skirt. Another member of the staff observed was Miss B. Hay, ' who wore a black taffetta skirt with floral ^oatee and white fur cape. She was . accompanied by her two nephews, Messrs. I. Hay, of Wellington, and A. Hay, Hastings. To the music of a popular Palmerston North orchestra, dancing was continued till 1.30 a.m. under the able supervision of Mr. Doug. Collier. The recently-renovated hall was still further enhanced by streamers and flowers, which were most tastefully chosen and provided a most plea^jng background. Perhaps the most pleasing featqre was the arranging and decoration of the stage, for which full credit is due to the staff of the institu-

tion. Considerable work and care must have gone into the preparation .of the hall, and the committee responsible was well rewarded. by the many congratulatory comments made by the dancers. A special supper room adjoining the hall was excellently arranged and the large crowd was expeditiously and well catered for on the cafeteria system. The preparation of the supper by the staff must have involved considerable work, as metieulous care had been taken to make everything attractive and palatable, the result being most praiseworthy. The supper committee comprised Misses R. Robinson, B. Hay, D. Corner, K. Nisbet, N. Nisbet, E. Perry, J. Willing, A. L. Ferguson and , Messrs. T. Wiley and H. Kalmister. During the evening many novelty,. dances were cohducted and streamers, balloons and confetti soon gave a party atmosphere to the function.
