The death occurred at Otaki on Tuesday, after a short illness, of an oi'd identity in the . person . of : Mr. Hohepa (Joe) Hakaraia, aged 62 years. Successful Football Dance The Rahui Football Club's social committee staged another very successful and enjoyable ' dance at Te Horo on Saturday night. Despite the inclement weather, quite a s&tisfactory attendance was reported, and arrangements left nothing to' be desired. Messrs. A. Cook and C. Pussell were joint M.C's. Competitions Finalised Competitions in connection with three attractive coioured flax baskets for the Raukawa Tribal Committee's war memorial effort were finalised in Otaki on Monday night. The' successful competitors were: Red basket, Mrs. M. Tahiwi; pink basket, Mr. P. Taipua; purpie basket, Mrs. A. M. Rhodes. Golf Postponement Bad weather on Saturday last caused the postponement of the third card for the Tris Harper Memorial, which was to have been played that day by the Otaki Go.f Club. This will now be playe'd next Saturday, August 7, while the foilowing day the Buckley Club, of Shannon, will be visiting Otaki for an inter-club match. Fire Brigade's Visits The Otaki Volunteer Fire Brigade has paid two visits to neighbouring brigades recently, the first to Foxr ton, when a billiards tournament for the Coley Shield saw Foxton, the holders, successfully ward off the challengers. The second visit was to Shannon, when friendly games of billiards and snooker were played. Each brigade possessing players of equal merit, several keenly contested games eventuated. School Holidays Normal arrangements have been made for school children to start their second-term holidays on August 20. Education Board officers said today that Wellington primary schools would begin their holidays on this date and resume on September fr— a Monday. Most of the colleges in the Wellington dis'trict will also break up on August 20 and resume three weeks later on September 14.
