Fire In Dwelling Quickly Suppressed
Prompt action by the Levin Fire Brigade when it was called.out at about 8.10 a.m. this morning averted what may have been a major fire. Clothes stacked round the h t water cylinder in a house at 70 MacArthur Street, occupied by Mr. L. L. Close, caught alight and set fire to the surrounding walls, a great many sheets and articies of clothing being destroyed. It is thought that the fire was caused by the internal combustion set up by the drying clothes. The cylinder was built into. a corrugated iron section set out from the back wall of the house, and the iron was badly buckled by the hea't. Had it been built on the inside of the house, it is probable that a great deal more damage would have been done. As it is, the whole of the front of the cupboard was charred and the walls and ceiling of the kitchen bad'y scorched.. The brigade arrived with commendable promptitude and :soon had the blaze under control with the use of bucket pumps. ' '
