Someone, however, noticed smouldering bedding in oue of the bedrooms just in time, A serious outbreak of fire was also narrowly averted at Tokomaru yesterday, when the roof of a wash-house, which was joined to the house, caught fire. The help of a passing motorist was enlisted and two or thre well pl'aced buckets of water soon had the outbreak under control. The sole occupant of thedwelling was an elderly lady, who was doing the washing.
