Sanatorium Site Discussed By Borough Council
The recent discussions regarding the proposed new sanatorium to be erected by the Western Hospital Districts' joint committee were the subject' of some comment at the meeting of the Otaki Borough Council on Thursday night. Cr. E. J. Cook considered that the council should todge a strong protest if there was any idea of discontinuing the present local institution. "There is no place in New Zealand to equal it," he said, when referring to the beautiful surroundings that were'part of the present site. "The land on which the present institution stands was given by the Maoris," continued Cr. Cook, who was emphatic that there should be no need to purchase land elsewhere. "They have all the land they want where they are now, and there should be no need to look for grounds elsewhere." These' views were supported by other councillors and it was agreed to ascertain to what extent Otaki's claims were being considere'd.
