Otago Win First Ranfurly Shield Match
DUNEDIN, August 1. Otago outclassed Southland hoth back and forward, to win the first Ranfurly Shield match of the season by 25 to 0. The Otago paek played All Black footbail and scrummed their opponents into the ground. Although the mateh was played on a myddy ground, Otago backs tigured in seintillating movement s with R. R, Elvidge, I. J. Botting and W. A. Meates outstanding. Tries were scored by Meates (3), Botting ( 2 )_, Elvidge and R. A- Dalton, L. Haig and (t. Moore each converted one. The crowd was estimated at 30.000. The referee was Mr. .A. Fong, of Greymouth.
