Flora Club's Outing To Forest Lakes
Members of the Levin Native Flora Club had a very enjoyable outing recently, when a party visited Forest Lakes, near Otaki. The scenery around the little Heart Lake and from adjoining hills must surely be some of the most. pleasing in the Horowhenua lowlands Most of the day was spent in' the bush near Heart Lake, so name'd from its shape. This tiny lake, fringed with bush and flax, is set in a hollow among hilis. and is said to be 50 feet deep. The waters deepen sud'denly at the flax>c)ad edge, so the flax-swamp cannot encroach further. Another much larger lake was visited by several members of the party, who were interested in, the diving of a bird which was' apparently a grebe. The next outing of the club will be to Mr. S. B. Mexted's Moutere bush on Sunday, August 22. Members will meet at the Levin Post Office at 10 a.m.
