Toll Of The Road Two hundred and six died and 4762' were injured in the 3570 trafiic accidents reported to the Transport Department during 1947. Of those killed, 108 were occupants of motor. vehicles, 47 were pedestrians, 30 1 were motor-cyclists or pillion passengers and 21 were push cyclists. Missing Men Police parties searching for Herbert Kitteridge who has been rnissing ' from his home in Brougham Street, Wellington, since Monday, included another missing man in the searc'h. He is Edward James Bolton, aged 70, who has been missing from the Salvation Army Men's Hostel since Thnrsday morning. Mowlem, retnrned an open verdict at the inquest held yesterday into the death of Wesley Everett Richards, a Minister of r-eligion, aged 70 years, married,'of Palmerston North, who died in the Palmerston North Hospital on July 7 as a result of severe injuries received 011 the night of July 4 while he was walking along the main south highway near Tokomaru. The restoration of Neon lighting throughout New Zealand is now a question solely for local power authorities. 1 New Shin For Islands Track, A new vessel, slighjy larger than the Matua, has been on-ier.ed by the Qnion Steam Ship Comp_ny for service between New Zealand and Aie South Pacific Islands. Deiivery of the ship, which Will be named Tofua, is expected to arrive in September, 1951. She will have a gross tonnage of 5300 and will be fltted with the latest refrigeration equipment in all five holds. The administrative authoritfes in the islands intend to increase the production of fruit, and the new Tofua will enabie cargoes to be discharged in Wellington and Lyttelton as well as at Auckland. . s
