STEEPLECHASERS ATTRACTED INTEREST AT AWAPUNI
Though there were several useful trials on the flat at Awapuni yest^rday morning, the steeplechase horses attracted most interest. Among^those to take on the big fences were G-aiety, Allisloper, Tanga-ta-Pai and Dark Mystery, and "all jumped well. The. eoui'se, aifer rain, was in excellent order and the chances are tlia-t if vvill- remain so for the Hunt meeting. (iood trials on tlie flat were credited to Field Marshal and Oay Stitches, which will race at Napier Park, and to Sea Fury and Gay Flame, to Battle Strife and Pret'a, and to Emerge.
Field Marshal (J. Harrisj and Uay Stitches (Mrs. Christiuas) sprinted four I'uriongs in 53 1-5, breaking 40 t'or the last tliree. They worked fairly late in ihe niorniug after the going- on tlie triaJ grass had beconie greasy after rain. Find Out (K. Marsh) looked a picture wlieii he was taken out for a working gallop. He will be ridden hy F. Power. Sea Fury (G. K. Tattersall) and Gay Flame (D. Harris) wasted little tinie ovftr six furlongs in 1.20 4-5, and they were home strongly in better than 41. Kawhia (C. A. Bowry) and Irish Talent (Wood) maintained an cven pace over five in 1.10, and Golden Casket (V. ■J. Sellars) and Kaiding (D. Harris) were timed to run the last five in 1.11 3-5, Golden Casket holding a slight ad vantage at the post Trexnello (A. Midwood) and Moreton Bay (C. Christiansen) were tpgether to tlie straight in their seven furlong work out and Treiuello tlien drew awav to complete in 1.39 3-5. ■ Noble Knight ( W. .T. B rough ton) sprinted five in 1.9 3-5 and looks to be in good order for the hack seven. Coronara (Tattersall), Lord Bradbury (J. Hely ) and Speed King (1. Cole) broke 41 for the last tliree of a mile in 1.52 2-5. Battle Strife( Tattersall) and Prefa (Midwood)' were home from the five in 1.8 4-5, the last three in 42. Luey Bian a.nd Cycl'one rau six in 1.2G, and Ladr Barrington (J. Harris) and Matara (D. Amey)' were timed to run their last six in 1.27. Emerge (Aitken) .aud Lady Oratory (Cole) went away. together from the six and. rau the first three in 42. Emerge drew out in the straight to complete in 1.24. He worked kindly. Aga Kay (A. G. Waddell) and Vernon (Tattersall) were kept to even

He gave' a gfeat displav. Another great trial was that of Tanga-ta-pai (W. Ford) and Dary Mystery (E. Jones). They went once round ancl the further they went the better they jumped: Ford" and Jones will ride them tomorrow. Arrivals yesterday included Kia Ora Katoa, Travel King. Harris Tweed and Cornwall Park.
