CHRISTCHURCH, July 22. Mr. J. II. Phillips, Wellington, has been appointed manager of the New Zealand cricket team to tour England next year. This was announced at the half vearly meeting of the New Zealand Cricket Council this evening. The chairman of the management eommittee, Mr. T). E. Wanplyn, said that several trial matches would be played in the coming season to lielp in the selection of the N"ew Zeala-nd team for England. In addilipn to Blunket Hhield games, the following lixtures vyere arranged: — Town v. Oountrv in the main contres, to be played before Uhristmas. A match at Hamilton or Auckland between Possibles and Probables of tlie Auckland niinor a^sociations, and a simlar match at Wellington. February 5, 7, 8: Nortli Island .v. North Island Minor Associations, at Wellington and a similar gamo at Chrjgtehureh and for the South Island. The .South Island Minor Association are to play a trial match at the New Year. February 10, 11, 12: New Zealand v. fiest, at Christchurch. .
