Hard to Get Recruits For Coal Mines
SYDNEY, July 21. Aline workers are leaving the industry as quicklv as recruits come 111, according to a survey made by the Department of Labour and Nationai Service, at tlie request of the Joint Coal lloard. In the first six nionths last year, 1243 entered the industry but 1275 left \t. About 2800 bovs leavc school vearly in the coallields areas but in past years the number going directly into the coal industry has not exceeded 40 yearlv. The report suggests that coal mining will have to be made more attractive if suHicient yieople are to be attracted to ineet requirements.
