Millions to Spare Excess money avallahle in New Zealand is place'd at nearly £100 million by a bulletin on inflation prepared by,the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce. 'Tncluding the savings banks, the deposits and notes in the Dominioh increased during the nine years from 1938 onwards by £251 million, or' 157 per cent.," states the bulletin. "Assuming an increase of 20 per cent. in production, and an average increase in prices of 70 per cent.-, about twice as much money as in 1938 would be required to finance current production, and income at curreat prices. That would mean that about £320 million would be needed, and the amount available is £411 million."
