GALES DROP BUT SEAS STILL HIGH.

Received Mondav, 7.15 p.m. SYDNEY, July 19. The police are stationed on Sydney beaches and cliffside paths to prevent further tragedies. The gales have drppped cousiderably and tlie lowest temperature today was 47.2, but the seas have not yet moderated. The Weath.er Bureau forecast is for further showers, cold strong winds and rough to high seas. Parts of the promenade at Balmoral beach inside the harbour have been undprmined causing several pylons to collapse, talcing with them portion pf the promenade. The minimum temperature in Melbourne today was 30.1 degrees which is the lowest since August, 1944. By 9 a.m. the air temperature wag still hovering kbout freezing point.
