The ' farm vacate'd by Mr. Barnett has been taken over by Mr. J. Chambers, formerly of Mangaore. Mr. and Mrs. Chambers and family have now taken up residence in" Shannon.. 'Phone Cables Renewed For the past few days a Post and Telegraph Department gang has been busily engaged in renewing the underground telephone cable along •Plimmer Terrace. A difficult task is now almost completed. State House Occupied After many hold-ups due to material shortages and other reasons, the first of the State house units situated on the corner of Ballance and Margaret Streets was recently alloeated *and the lucky tenants, Mr. and Mrs. F. Mardon, moved into their new place of residence yesterday". Stray Dogs Disappear The council's -warning that drastic measufes would b'e employe'd to rid the town of the stray dog nuisance seems to have had the desired effect, as most of the strays have disappeared over the weekend. The youngman was attempting to _ separate two dogs which were fighting, when one of them attacked him. After receiving medical attention at Shannon he wa^ taken to Palmerston North Hospital for further treatment. • * Bride-to-be Honoured 4 - Miss P. Thomson, oi Buckley, whose marriage to Mr. Eric Smith tqok place last Saturday, was the guest of honour at a kitchen tea arranged by Mes'dames Roberts and Ward, of Buckley, and held in Laurvig's Hall last Tuesday evening. The bride-to-be was the recipient of many useful gifts. A happy time was spent in games, dancihg and competitons. Her many friends wished Miss Thomson every happiness in her married life.
