IIsWERCAKGILL, July 18. Cliristmas Day this year falls on a Saturday and Boxing Day on a Sun day. New Year's Day is also on a Saturday and Jauuarv 2, another award holiday, on a Sundav. Beeause of this the ' Southland Trades Council, at its meeting last niglit, unauimously adop.ted a motion forwarded by the Southland' sub-braneli of -the New Zealand Engiiieering Union asking the Federation . of Labour to urge the Government to amend the law so that "holidays, exeept Auzac Day, that fall on a Satur.- } day, Sunday or otlier non-working day:' shall be trausferred to the first workiug day following the same holidays." •Mr. D. Ilarris said this provision had aiready been included in some awards by agreement.
