Three Cars Converted Over Weekend

PALMERSTON N., July 19. Three cafs were stolen over the weekend but, as ithen'tesult of close checking by the pcflice at Waikanae, Palmerston Nofth 'and Marton, they were recover.e-d within 24 hours of being missed. It is thought possible that the theft of. two of the cars is the work of two boys who escaped from Weraroa Training Farm late ' on "Satiir8ay; night. ; At about 11 p.m. on Saturday night a five-seater car, the property of Mr. C. C. Bieakleyy of Queenwood Road, Levin, was reported as missing. A call was immediately sent out to. police stations in the area and the car was found abandoned in Grey Street, Palmerston Nqrth, on Sunday. Collinson. of Victoria Avenue, Palmerston North, was removed from outside his. home on Saturday night and yesterday morning was recovered at Marton. There was no sign of the occupants. A five seater car, owned by Mr. J. W. Clarke, was removed' from his garage in Winchester Street 011 Saturday night and was later found abandoned in Roosevelt Street. The two nlissing boys are both aged 14 and both are wearing navy shirts and shorts. The height of one of the youths is 5 feet 9 inches; he is siim and has fair curly hair. The other is a half-caste Maori lad of sturdy build, height 5 feet 2 inches. Garages Entered ' Two Palmerston North garages were entered on Friday night and from ohe, Selwyn Motors, Rangltikei Street, a car was taken. It Is thought entry was gained through a skylight. .Th'e car was a small English m.odel and was later found abandoned at Waikanae. The premises of Greenbank Motors, aiso in Rangitikei Street, were broken into by way of a small back window. and it is believed a small sum of money is missing. The police are investigating.
