World Talks On Infantile Paralysis
NEW YOBK, July 12. The Intei'national Poliomyelitis Conference opened today with f 180U representatives from 39 countries attending. New Zealand 's official deiegate is Dr. Duncan Cook. Professor Herbert Seddon, of Oxford, Hngland, discussing treatment coslb, said the fSister Kenny treatment was expensive but an insufticient reason to dismis.s Miss Kenny 's work as "a uine days ' wonder. " Professor Seddon added:'" We must ask ourselves whether our own methods of treatment are altogether rational. May be we are wasting money in prplonging ti'eatuient beyond the point where it is of the slightest use to a patient. " Bister Kenny quoted to the press figures and reports from- American doctors and hospitals, which she said proved her niethod was not only the cheapest to the hospital but also to the community. yhe claimed the period of con valescence was materially shortened tlius reducing the cost of the. treatment.
