. The Wellington winter meeting was continued at Trentham on Saturday imder conditions wliich, except for several light showers, were f'avourable. Highlights of the day included the thrilling finish to the July Steeplechase, which was won by Arabian Night a head .from Master Meruit. The Parliameiitary' and Members' Handicaps were won by horses from the Auckland district. and the Parliamentary Handicap race was marred by the falling of five horses and the Members' by the falling of two horses, one of which was the well fancied General Victory. In the opening ra.ce, the Corunna. Hurdles, the favourite, Night Fighter, swung round arid struck a truck and was injured. He took no parf in the race. ■ •

The attendance was good- and tke totaligator handled £202,387 10s, compared with £205,030 10s on the second day last year. The total for the two days is £360,552 10s, as agaiust £380,070.
