Reeeived Sunday, 1 p.m. LONDON, Jiily 10. The Israeli •Government has agreed to'a ten days' extension oi the tfuce in Palestine begiflniiig at ' midday today, reports the British United Press coiTespondent in Tel Aviv. In Cairo, the secfetary-general of the Arab Lehgue, Azzam Pasha, annouiieed that the Arabs eotlld not agTee.to exteiid the "luiworkable and one-sided"( Palestine truce. in a N ote . to United Nations, Azzam Pasha said the automatic renewal of the truce would' be doing the Arabs the greatest harm without their haviiig even an assurance tliat it would bring peaee to Palestine oi the surrouiiding eountriesv The Note added that the Arabs had shown moderation and tolel'anee by readiness to saci'iflce some oi their national aspirations. It was up to the Zionists to prove a similar toleranee artd moderation. The Arabs were anxious for peaee and were willing to coopei'ate with CoUnt Beknadotte in findiiig a lasting solution of the Palestine problem,' but they were also looking for justice. A message from Lake Success says Count Bernadotte is sche'duled to arrive at New York tomorroW. It is expected he will require at least a day to prepare his report on the Palestine situa tion, thei'efore it is unlikely that the Secui'ity Couneil will meet bei'ore Wednesday. Latest inforniation reaehing United Nafions headquarters ivS that the situation in Palestine ii not as bad as was first feared, says Reuter's correspondent. It is believed thei'e is a division of eounsel among the Arabs on the truce ■ question. The ' ' doctrine ' ' of despair recently expressed ih the Securitv Couneil by Paris el Khoury, of Syria, in which he said the Arabs were prepared to be wiped out in their struggle, is not believed by informed circles heke, to have any solid backing among the other Arai) nations. British and American sources eonfirm that strong pressure is being used to convince tluwArab States that if they refuse to extend the truce tlie Secui'ity Couneil will declare thom as " a ggressors ' ' under chapter 7 of the Charter which im plies the economie possibly of military sanctiotis.
