Soviet Reply On Berlin Blockade Awaited
ComriQht)
i Received Thursday, 10.5 a.m. . LONDON, ^uly 7. Tension ' remained high in Berlin today while the Western Allies awaited a reply to their notes to Russia on the lifting of the blockade. \ The general f eeling is echoed by The , Times, which said today : "The longer the crisis lasts the harder it will be to escape an open challenge or incidents which, although perhaps unpremeditated, .might have a sequel beyond control."
/ Increasing activity jn and around the air corridors to Berlin by Russian fighter planes and interference with the beam which guides American planes to the city are reported to be the latest Russian moves, and are apparently part of their squeeze on the Western Allies. The British pilot of a food transport plaiae to Berlin reported that
several Russian Yak fighters flew around the plane late yesterday. One detached itself from the squadron and, "buzzed." The transport pilot said : "He beat me up quite a bit with his propellor wash." British officials i'n Berlin do not take a serious view of the incident, and say the Russian did- not fly dangerously near the transport.
