Over 40 New State Houses To Be Started
• ? ' '. - The construction of between 40 and 50 new State houses in Levin will be commenced next week by the Residential Construction Company, which has just completed some 60 units in Foxton. The houses are t*> be/buiit in Winchester Street Soutn, and when completed snouid go^aiongway t>wards eliminating the town's shortage of dwellings. The pr.oject was first mooted some six months age' when tne Mayor,. Mr. H. B. Burdekin, pre-, sented Levin's claims for the company to huild houses locally on the termination of the Foxton contract. He has continued to represent it to the authorities ever since. i The main difficulty facing the company is the obtaining of board in ^L^vin for 20 of its workmen, a large number of whom are rehabili- , tation . trainees. An appeal is, therefore, made to those citizens who are able to do so to offer board to these men, all of whom have excellent references, and thus assist in carrying this much-needed work to a successful conclusion.
