■ WELLINGTON, July 6. If tlie GoVernment liad any respect for freedom of speech, it would give iiiiu the opportunity.to reply over the air to statements broadcast througkout' tlie country by the Prime. Minister. Mr. Jb'raser, and Minister of Labour, Mr. McLagan, said Mr. H. Barnes, president of the Waterside Workers ' Union, tonight. It would be worthless to drag out tlie arguments further in the nevvspaper columns, said Mr. Barnes, u hen comiuenting 011 state-. ments by Mr. Fraser and Mr. McLagan pubiished today. Mr. Barnes said that if Mr.- McLagan liad any sense of fpir play, lie would agr.ee that they sliouJd each liave an hour on the air to put the issue,s before tbe public. Mr. Barnes spoke for the greater part of the niorning to a meeting oi tlie full national couneil of the uiuon today. There were also present the full executive of tlie Federation oi Labour' and representatives from tlul'ransport Workers' Federation and ailied uuions. Mr. T. Hili, secretary oi tlie union, and Mr. J. Flood, former union noiuinee 011 the Commission, also spoke. The meeting will continue toniorrow.
