Henshaw, of Pretoria'Roa'd, returned home yestefday afternoon after spending a holiday at Napier and Rotorua. Mr. Richard Lind, of Lower Hutt, was a weekend visitor to Shannon, where he was the guest of his parPnts, Mr. and Mrs. R. R. Lind, Vance Street. * The friends of Mr. and Mrs. W. Easton, of Newtown, will regret to learn that their daughter, Miss Shirley Easton, has had to again enter. the Palmerston North Hospital for treatment. ' Mr. and Mrs. R. Saunders, of Thompson Street, have returned home after spending a short holiday at Hamilton, and Auckland. While in Hamilton they were the guests of Mrs. J. Caldwell an'd attended the wedding of her daughter, Pat, which took place on Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. L. Coulter, who ' have been farming at Makerua, ■ have come to reside in Shannon. Mr. Coulter has had to give up his farm as he is still suffering from the effects of an accident which took place- almost twelve mdnths ago. Mr. an'd Mrs. Swinburn have taken over Mr. Coulter's farm and Mr. and Mrs. G. Wood, of^Shannon, have recently taken over the farm vacated by Mr. Swinburn. Greyhound Racing for Foxton. The Foxton Beach Improvement Committee has giveii lease to a Palmerston North- sports( body for an area- of land which is now under. preparation for a greyhound racing course. , Music Examinations v Mrs. R. R. Lind, A.T.C.L., local secretary of Trinity College, London, has received advice that the three theory candidate(s presented for examina'tion in. June all passed with honours. The following are the results: — Preparatory division: Donald Spiers (96) , Shirley .Thomson (88). First steps: Beverly Miers (93). Shirley Thomson is a pupil of Miss Stephenson. ' • Drivers' Licences The town clerk, Mr. J. T. Bovis, a'dvises that to date 224 licences to drive motor vehicles haye-been issued by the Shannon Borough Council. The issue of licences is on a par with last year. Pedestrian Crossing The attentio'n of motorists using Grey Street is drawn to the fact that a pedestrian crossing has now been formed at the local school. This fills a long-felt want, as the safety of the children has in the past been endangered when crossing" from the school grounds to the footpath on the opposite cide of the road. Heavy Rain Finds the Leaks The heavy rain which fell early on Saturday afternoon found the weak spots in the roofs of several local buildings. A number of householders were Seen on the rooftops over the weekend endeavouring to find out where ■ the water got through at the height of the storm on Saturday. A number of business people arrived at their shops on Monday morning to find that bad leaks had 'damaged stocks. It is understood- that no serious losses have been caused by the sudden cloudburst.
