N.S.W. Wants To See Maori All Blacks
WELLINGTON, July 5. An invitatiou by the Ncw Wouth Wales Union for a Maori tcain to tour Australia iu 1949, preferably iu July, was considered by tlio executivc of Ihe New Zealand Itugby Union today and refcrred to the council for decision. The "Ncw South Wales "Union also j suggestod that the All Blacks eu route to South Africa, play in Melbourne, Adelaide and Fremantle. Such games would morely be traiuing runs for the All Blacks but would be of inestimable value to t.hc gameiu those States. The Fijian ltugby Union advised the following itijierary for tlie Maori tour: July 21 arrive, July 22 v. European side, July 24 v. Suva-ltewa, July 27, or 28 v. Lautoka and Vatukoula, July 31 lirst test, August 4 second test, August 7 third test. The •itinerary was approved with the ekceptiou of the matcli ou July 22 which was considered too booii for the team following its atrival. Mr. W. S._ Henderson, Bay of Plenty, was appointed manager of the team and Mr.~ W. Barclay, North Auckland, assistant manager. The New Zealand Itailwavs itugby Council was granted-permission to play a North-South railways match at AIcLean Park, Napier, on September 18. The West Coast Union advised that its challenge for the Ranfurly Shield on August 11, had been cancelled. It was deeided that teams for the A and B All Black trials be limited to 19 players. The allowance for Maori players for the tour of Fiji, was lixed the same as ' for the All Black side in Australia last year, namely 4s daily. 3 y
