Otaki Bowling Club Holds Annual Meeting
The annual general meeting of the Otaki Bowling Club was held on Tuesday last. Mr. W. Wilson, president, occupied the chalr and there was a large attendance of rrieitibers. Reference was made to the severe loss sustained by- 'the club in the deaths of no fewer than eight promlnent members, Messrs. L. G. Lowry (patron) , B. Brown, H. Nicolson and R. W. Booth (life members) , A. Capewell, W. Keay, T. Smith and H. Osborne. As a mark of respect, members stood in silence. In presenting the annual report and balance sheet, the president congratulated the club on a most successful season, both from a bowling and financial point of view. Good weather and an excellent green had provided members with the best of conditions, and a most enjoyable season had been experienced. The financial position was a most excellent one. All outstanding iiabilities had been liquidated and a substantial balance was in hand. The rebuilding fund continued to grow, but unfortunately nothing could be done to improve conditions in this respect, owing to building restrictions. Inter-club matches for the Olliver Memorial Shield, Roberts Shield and Centaki Cup had been played, continued the president, and in each case the club had been successful in winning these trophies. Two matches for the Hyams Bowl were also played, the club winning the first but losing tne return match to Paraparaumu Beach. Club competitions were most successful, the winners being: — Singies: W. Wilson; pairs: C Fi Atmore &nd H. R. Eaton; fours- C. J. Jensen, J. Snowdon, R. S. Purvis, H. R. Eaton (s) ; jumor championship : W. L. Jepson, veterans' singies: N. N. Barron •The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted: — Patron. Mr. D Noble; president: Mr. J. D. Avery; vice-president: Mr. R. W. Jenkins; secretary: Mr. M. J. McGilligan; treasurer: Mr. H. B. Cole; auditor : Mr. R. S. Purvis; committee: Messrs. E. T. Bartosh, L C. Walsh, A/Baker, V. J. Kearns, J. E. Southgate, W. S." Brooks and J. Snowdon; delegate to centre: Mr. W. Wilson; delegate to Northern Club's executive: Mr. E. T. Bartosh. Complimentary references were made by many speakers to the excellent condition of "fclae S1 and its surroundings, and thanjcs were bxtended to Messrs. Bartosh and Walsh for their splendid work over the pasUyear. Thanks were also expressed to all other helpers, particularly the ladies who had carried out the refreshment arrangements. •. •
