Te Horo W.I. Holds July Meeting

There was a very good atten'dance of members at the July meeting of the Te Horp Women's In■stitute, which was held on Thursday. The president, Mrs. R. Johnson, extended a greeting to ali present. The motto for the month, "Many kinds of * fruit grow on the tree of iife, but the sweetest of all is friendship," was giVen by Mrs. L. McDonald. A letter was receive'ci from Mrs. J. McChesney, thanking members for the flowers which were sent to her whiie she was mdisposed. A further card party will be held in the Te Horo parish hall 'on Saturday, July 17, the hostesses being Mrs. A. L. McDonald and Miss B. Catley. A letter was received from Corso thanking the branch for a parcei which was sent recently. Next month a collection of coloure'd material, old silk stockings and cuttings will be held, the goods gomg to the Levin Farm. Parceis can be left at the Te Horo Store. Arrangements and remits were finalised for the delegate, Mrs. R. Johnson, who is attending the Dominion conference in Wellington on August 3 and 4. Mrs. P. 'Evans kin'dly , off ered _ 10 pack the food parcei for the link in England. Members were in(terested in a basket of lachenalia grown and displayed by Mrs. C. Walker. Last year's trophies were presented by Mrs. D. Grant, who congratulated the winners, Mesdames R. Johnson, A. L. McDonald and C. Strom. All were given a beautiful shrub. A competition, the prize lor which was donatea by Mrs. G. Brown, was won by Mrs. C. Sutton, while Mrs. C. Strom gave a short demonstration on dress designing, showing how to sketch styles. Mrs. Johnson thanked her for tne address. A duet by Mesdames C. Spiers and W. Clark was much enjoyed. The results of the competitions, which were judged by popular vote, were as follows: — Best flower in my garden: Mrs. R. Johnson 1, Mrs. H. Lumsden 2, Mrs. R. W. Jenkins 3. Bottle of tomato relish: Mrs. C. Sutton 1, Mesdames O. Shirnack, D. Grant and N. Bracken 3 (equal).
