PERMISSION REFUSED TO BROADCAST MR. BARNES
WELLINGTON. July 2. The requcst by Mr. T. Hill, secretarv of the New Zealand Waterside Workers' Union, for broadcasting facilities for the address advertised to be delivered by Mr. H. Barnes, president of the union, 011 Sunday night in the Town Hall, Auckland, 111 support of tlie attitude adopted bv him in the present waterfront dispute, has been refused. In a statement released tonight the Frime Minister (Mr. Fraser) said 1 h e was inf'ormod that Mr. Hill had writI ten to tlie Director of Broadcasting. "Mr. Hill mentions the name and posi ition of tlie proposed chairman apparenrl.v as a reason why the request should be granted," continues tlie statement. "He also states that tlie proposed cliairnian concurs in the appiication. Tlie fiction laken by Mr. Barnes and otlier union ofticials and regrettablv by «onui menibers who are victinis of misdirection is illegal.
