Growth of English Motor Exports

Near Slough (Bucks, England), a vast agrictfltural working demohstration has just .been carried ouf. It was" visited by buyers from Continental and Middle East eountries representing a no less than fif tyeight different places. Foreign government officials and members of British Ministries also visited the demonstration. At a private view the Minister of Supply, the Rt. Hon. ' George S:rauss, • M.P., drove a Fordson. Major tractor and, in a speech afterwards, released some "outstanding figures. Record Export Figures In his speech, Mr. Strauss said, :(Ford Motor Company, Limited, Dagenham, are breaking production records . . . indeed in many respects irey have broken not only all their- own production records out production records of the Brit- . ish Motor Indust'ry as a whole. "During one recent month, I am told, apart from exporting 2227 tractors, they exported 485T cars and 1354 commercial vehicles, makmg a total of 6205 vehicles for the month, apart from tractors. "These are ail exports, I believe a higher export from one motor manufacturing company than has ueen achievea by any other company throughout this country . . .- rar higher . . . an immense acnievement. It deserves the warmest congratulations by everybody incerested, not only in British indusfcry but in the economic recovery of the world." -

Prospects of Permanent Peace He went on -to say, "With such magniflcent tractors and farming eqmpment we should be able to increase tne productivity of our own iand, and wiiat is more important than a'nything else in the world at ine momen., to see that there is enough and ample food for ail the people in the world and that the greatest burden of poverty — inability to get enouah to eat — shall oe removed, because if there is enough food for everyone throughout the world, one of the greatest causes of strife between the nations will be removed and the prospect of getting permanent peace will be very much betcer. ... I think the Ford Motor Company may well be proud and the nation can well be grateful for the contribution their •company has made and is making fcoday to the strength of this country." ■ 1

Of these 85,000 tractors -about 70 per cent nave been piaced on British farms. In the export market Fordson Major Tractors . have contributed over £8,500,000 in precious foreign currency since the end of the war.
