Civic Theatre
— -r ■■ J Anyone who loves horses will get a great kick out or the new M.-G.-M. picture, "Gallant Bess," which screens at the Civic Theatre on Saturday and Monday. Here is a vibrant and moving tale of a sixteen-year-old boy whose loss of .parents is made up for by his love 'for an intelligent and devoted mare jnamed "Bess." Although the boy, ;Tex, wants to make a beginning at jowning a horse ranch, he is moved 'by the call of patriotism and joins toe Seabees. Then "Bess" dies I while in foal, and not even the i.excitement of being shipped to a T'acific atoll can take the lonely .'Tex's mind from the horse ne loved. ' But on the island Tex discovers 'another horse who has been aband[oned by her owner, and before long jshe fills the void in the young jrancher's heart. This moving taie ls faithfully depicted by a fine cast, headed by young Marshall Thompson who lends an earnest credibiljty and sympathy to the role of Tex.
