HOWE'S GOOD TRIAL OVER SIX FURLONGS.
One of the feature triula at Trentham on Tuesday was over - six furloqgs on the outside of the two-year-old track by Howe. Howe was ridden by N. B. Holland and High Order (K. R. Ford) went with hira to the top of the straight where Howe commenced to draw away to be elear at the finish after running the sjix in 1.18 4-5. Six Furlongs By Langspiel B. H. Morris rode Langspiel in a useful tnal over six furlongs at Trentham* on Tuesday. The Greenmeadows speedster was not required "to do her best but she ran the last three in 42. uban Beat Zealander The stablemates, Oban (Holland) and Zealander (G. Baines) sprinted five furlongs ahd Oban did well to run the distanee in better than 1.6. Cowper's Good Effort Oowper was ridden by T. Biggs iii oue' of the best gallops over six furlongs and Cowper was going well after running the full distanee in better than 1.20. Over The Big Fences The sod wall, two board fences, a • brusli fence and the post and rails were available for the 'chasers at Trentham on Tuesday. Brookby Song's Good Schcrol Brookby Song (R. Hawes), Dinkum Pnl (0. McColl) and Ilunting Dink (!{.' J. Auckram) were associated iu one of Ihe outstanding trials over the "country" and Brookby Song gave a faultless exhibitiou of jumping. The others jumped well, too, and it was a very satisfactory school. Ballinabuoy Jumped "Well Ballinabuay (McColl), Master Play (J. Nicolson) and Abbey Lu (Hawes) were partncred in ( another school. Master Play fell at the second board fence, and Abbey Lu was pulled up after negotiating thein safely. Ballinaabuov gave a very good display. Good Trial By General Victory General Victory, which will be ridden by W. J. Broughton at Trentham; was responsible for the outstanding gallop at Hastings on Tuesday wheu he rau five furlongs on a sodden track in 1.7. . _ ' Went Well' 'At Riccarton in a trial at Riccarton on Tuesday Special Flight attracted attentiou to her Whyte Haudicap prospects wlien she rau four furlongs in 49 seconds. O. Cox Retires After a lifetime of horse training, _in which he accumulated 500 winners and manv of the most important prizes, Mr. O. Cox, of Hawera, has surrendered liis traiuer's licence. He will, however, retain his own horse, Braiherton, to coutinue his interest in the sport. The decision to forfeit his licence was niade to mark his 74th birthday, which fell last weelc. Will Have to Produce His Best To Win The brilliaut feucer Master Meruit won his second Hawke's Bav Steeplechase at Hastings on Safurday afternoou when he completelv annihilated his opponents without having to produce niofe than a useful training school. Apart from almost over-reachiug himsolf at the sod wall on the final cireuit of the three miles event, Master Meruit 's exhibitiou Avas outstanding, and it tlirew into bold relief his strong clainis to favouritism in the Wellington Steepleehase next Saturday. Brookby Song, though admittedly good, will have to produce his outstanding best to head the Hawke's Bav 'chaser next Saturday (vvrites ' ' Tc Rama" of the H.B. Ilerald-Tribune).
