Police And Alleged Gifts Of Liquor
NAPIER, June 21. A request for a full publie inquiry iuto the allegations that gifts of liquor had been inade to the police, has been niade to the Miuister of Justice l>v the Napier Ministers' Association. Aresolutiou passed by the Association at a meeting today. states: "That in vieu .of the serious allegations niade in tho Napier Magistrate's Court on Moa day, June 14, by Mr. J. C. Bolger. against certain members of the local police force, this Ministers' Association earnestlv requests the Miuister of Justice to set up a publie inquiry. We feel strongly that the inquiry must be condueted in jtublic by an impartiai tribunal as the police force appears to be too seriously implicated in this niafter to be competent to conduct suHi an inquiry. The police force, as a publie service bodv responsible to the publie of New Zealand as well as to the Conuuissioner of Police, and in matters ali'ecting observance of the law, slxould be above suspicion.
