Awapuni Flat Races To Morotai And Wild Note Tlie Manawata Racing Club's winter meeting was eoneluded on Saturday in fine weather and there was great racing, Big fields paraded for most events and no fewer than foltr races Ha'd to be run in divisions. The Palmerston North , Handicap was won by Mr. G. A. McDonell's rnare, Morotai, the Members ' Handicap by Wild Note, from Trentham, and the big jumping events by Albino, from Otaki, and by Mr. F. S. EastonV gelding, Moutoa Lord. In the second division of the Ngata Hurdles Sunshine1 Bay ran home an easy winner from Middoon but lost the raee wlien his jockey, J. Nieolson, failed by, 21bs. to draw the required weight. . There was a large attendance and the totalisator turnover was £72,340, compared with £67,820 on the second day last year. The total for the meeting was £133,718^, as against £128,983, the in- • crease being £4735^-.'
Euryalus and Middoon The hurdle raee was run in divisions wliieli were won by Euryalus and tiunsliine Bay, but Sunshine Bay 's rider failed to draw the weiglit and Sunshine Bay was disqualilied. There were niany disasters in the first division in which. no less than iive of the nine starters came to grief. Phosphcue fell at the second fenee with six furlongs to run, and liesult and Miss Sterling were in front froin Euryalus and General Lvtup, but at the next fenee Kesult niade a bad jump and lost his rider. Miss Sterling, General Lytup and Master liaymond were out of it after the next -fenee, leaving Euryalus in eharge from Astrope, Kelmont and Gramond Bay. Euryalus was not jumping too weli but he won well by two lengths from Kelmont six lengtlis ahead of Astrope. Next was Cramond Bay. Sunshine Bay easily won the second division but wlien his rider failed by 21bs. to draw the weight he was out of it and tlie winner was Middoon from Gliristopher Wren, Ganges and Koyal Duee. Moreton Bay was the leader for u mile, but Sunshine Bay toolc ovor half a mile from home and led into tlie slraight two lengths clear of Moreton Bay, Ghristoplier "Wren, Ganges and Middoon in a bunch. Battle Strife and Festal Tlie Noviee Stakes divisions were won by Battle Strife and Festal, and iu the second division Festal, Thor and N'ulluli were almost in line as tliey went past the judge. The jumping was brilliant at the stand double just over a milo from liome and Eller (on Ilall, Tid-Apa, Whiphand, Thunderhead and Albino was the order as tliey moved in to the Jogs. Tid-Apa jumped into the lead half a inile from home and Albino then made a fast run to lead into the last fenee. Master Play, iuclined to get in a bit elose to his fences, was fourth and Ellerton Hall was next. Clare's Pal and Broiealice , CJarc's Pal and Broiealice won tlie divisions of the Electric Handicap. | L'lare 's Pa] was always in front in the i first division and after leading into the straight attended by Lady Myrtle, Fairytime, Blank Cheque, Gratuitv aml Valchjise he went 011 to win nicely by hvo lengths from Gratuitv a length in front of Blank Cheque. Next were Lady Myrtle and Valehase. >Sir lioyal and Bian Ifouge led to tlie straight in the second division and Sandy Ilarrison, Murrayfield, Broiealice, Retrieve and General Pay were' handy. Then Broiealice sprinted to Ihe front and in a great fmisli hung 011 to beat Bian Rouge by a neek. Vakura finished fast to be only a head awav and Noble Knight and Sir lioyal were next. Easy For Moutoa Lord Moutoa Lord was in front for most of the journey in the County Hurdles which he won as he liked by eight lengths from Baksoon which hung on to beat Roc kanui by half a length. Baksoon had a life at the first fenee and with a mile still to travel the order was Moutoa Lord from Baksoon, Peria Prinee, Trig Point, Roekanui, Tribute, Glen ETqukart, Peter Brierly and Spiro. Moutoa Lord was well clear half a mile from home and, although Baksoon tried to elose tlie gap, he had no chance of doing so. and when Moutoa Lord went smoothly over the last hurdle the raee
was over as far as the winner was concerned. Trig Point, Svhieh hit the third fenee hard, was fourth and Peria Prinee was next. Wild Note Just Beat Playtos Wild Note led always in the Members ' Handicap and half a furlong from the line looked as if he would seore by a decisive margin. Playtos, however, finished solidly and he was'beaten by only a nose. Tlie order into the straight was Wild Note from Playbov, Doprive, Master Baron, Playtos, Cooraclare, Travel Iving and Treasure Tee. Halfwav down the straight Playtos threw out his challenge which failed by a very narrovv margin. Cooraclare came home well for third three lengths awav and Master Baron and Playboy were next. Two Big Bividends The divisions of the Farewell Handicap were won by Indian Bong and Gay Fellow and both win dividends were good. Indian >Song aiul Ladv Barrington led the first division into tlie straight and were followed by Coronaya, Alumuus, ilatara, Eergeant Jack, Master Kip, Nevvel Post and Night Royal Indian Bong drew away in the run homeand won by three lengths from Coronara, a similar distance in front of Master Kip. Lady Barrington was next.
The stablemates, Gay Fellow and Lord B melbury, led from Lady Oratory early in the second division, and Gay j Fellow turned for home attended by j Beau Bijou, Lord Bradbury, Winning ; Ticket, Ivippo, Colorado Maid and Lady j Oratory. Gay Fellow finished resolutely : and won by two lengths from Kippo ! half a length in front of Colorado Maia which just beat Lady Oratory.
