Labour Federation's Posers For Government
WELLINGTON, June 18. The Government will be asked by the Federation of Labour to take steps to ensure the delivery of bread and meat to householders. This proposal endorsed by the committee of the annuai conference will be taken up by the national exeeut.ive of the federation. Other inatters brought forward by committees of the conference for representation to the Government include the supply of free school books, the proposed inciusion of workers' representatives on harbour boards, the appointment of a worker from the waterfront industry as a Government nominee on harbour boards. A request that proposed legislation for worker participation in the management of industry be brought down at an early date will be referred by the national executive of the Federation of Labour to the' Government. The executive has endorsed . tKe recommendation from a committee "of the annual confer.ence in the following terms: — "The committee is - glad to learn from the Minister of Labour (Hon. A. McLagan) that the Government -proposes to introduee legislation'' sliortly making provision for worker participation in the t management of industryj and trusts that this plan will be implemented in the near future." The disparity between the rate of pension for members of Parliament and that for soeial security age beneficiaries is to be referfed to the Minister of Finance (Ma Nash) by tlie Federation of Labour. The national executive has endorsed the finding of the committee of the conference that the Social Becurity Age Pensioners' Association (Auckland) is not entitled to representation at the annual conference of the Federation of Labour because it is not an industrial group. Letters from this association and from the New Zealand Pensioners' Association have been received on the subject of increased age benefits.
