More Acts Of Sabotage By Malayan Communists
Eeceived Friday, 10.50 p.m. SINGAPOEE, June 18. The Commissioner-General for the United Kingdom in Southeast Asia (Mr. Malcolm MacDonald) aceompanieu by the Governor of Singapore (Sir Fi'anklin Gimson; flew to Kuala Lumpur this morning for urgent talks regarding the present emergency. The newspaper Free Press declared: "The Iligh Uoinniissioner and the Federal Government do not enjoy the "onlidence of the general publie. " Bandits yesterday fired at a European assislant on ari estato at Batu Anam m Johore. Ile was not hit. A gang in Johore last night raided an esiate and burned down ihe European manager '.s Imngalow, four smokehouses and other estate buildings and sabotaged the faetorv and other machinery. The Malay regiment of reservists (native Malays) is being oalled to the I'olours to assist the police and regular troops. It is believerl that experienee.il members of the war tinie volunteer I'orces (mostly Europeans) will also be •alled on to assist. The latest tension centre is Tapah, 40 miles south of Ipoh, where police and Gurkha reinforcements have arrived. The Free Press says Communist kiliers are expected to strike soon in this area which is the centre of large rubber and mining interests. Large Uommunist arms dumps are suspected in llie vicinity.
