The floods which inundated nort-h coast towns and devastated hundreds of square miles of rich agricultural land are now receding over large areas, but gales are backing up the waters on the lower Clarence River, where the position is still serious. ',The Weather Bureaii has issue d another storm warning concerning the cyclone situated last night east of Clarence Heads. The State Minister of Labour and Industry has estimated the total damage so far at over £250,000. The Premier, Mr. McGirr, has made an urgent request to Canberra for Federal aid, and Cabinet will consider the- matter late today.
