ROTORUA; June 16. Among the reiuits carried at the Counties Conference today was one requesting the Government to investigate the possibility of the extraction oi petroleum from brown coal and sliale. i Representations are also to be made to j the Minister of Supjily to facilitate supplies of steel reiuforceinent for bridges and concrete pipes. The Government was urged in anotlier remit emanating from Matamata to legislate to control the placing of grocery boxes and other -receptacles, cream stands, cattle-stop entrances across roadside drains and other such structures on roads by placing them in the same category as telegraph and power poles and telephones booths; furtlier that no liability attacli to the roading authority or owners for any danger sustained by anyone by reason of such struetures. 1 It was recommended that provision should be made in the Fair Rents Act pro'tecting'- local authorities wrhere houses have been biiilt or acquired for eniplovees, and that where reserves created through Government housing schemes are vested in the local body the Government be asked to provide assistance for future maintenanee.
