SOUTH GRAFTON'S PLIGHT

Received Thursday, Noon. SYDNEY, June 17. South Grafton is now regarded as the most seriously flooded area on the north coast. A Grafton report says that unless the water begins to recede immediately, a third of the main residential area will, be inundated. The main street' is under two feet of water and a further rise is expected when the waters of the upper Clar- ' ence come down later today. Though it is still raining in the Lismore district. where over 2000 people are homeless, the waters have receded slightly. Low-lying areas are flooded to a depth of 20 feet and shops in the town are under four feet of water. Police parties in search of blankets are able to row boats up to the blanket shelves in the main stores and help themselves.
