Power Consumption Exceeds Allocation
1 WELLINGTON, June 14. Exceptionally cold weather was respousible for the heavy demand for electricity in the North Island last weok when consiimption exceeded the allocation by (380,000 units or 2.1 per cent. The allocation 'lixed by the State Hydro-electrie Department was 32,850,000 units whereas consumption amoujited to 33,539,000 units. Had it not been for the lving's birtliday holiday on Monday wlien there was practically 110 iiulustrial demand the excess consumption would undoubtedly have been much greater. Most of the power supply authorities exceeded tlieir respective allocations. There was no rain last week at Lake Taupo, the level of which fell by three inches. Lake Waikaremoana, where there were one aud a-half inches of rain last week, rose by a foot. The dams at "Mangahao have been empty for several days. In the South Island the allocation was 13,563,000 units and the eonsumption amounted to 13,-460,000 units, tijSaving of 103,000 units. The consumption was .8 per cent. below the allocation.
