County Rate Collection Improves
- — ,5. : — The total ra.tes levied for the year ended March 3i last amounted to £36,172, as compared ,with £34,543 fgr the previous year, said the treasurer, Mr. F. H. Hudson, in his annual report to the Uoi'owhenua County Councii. The total amount collected was £34,296 or 94.8 per cent., as against 94.3 per cent. Ihe previous year. The baiaiice .Jbtstanding largely included rates\)n natfve land, estates and property under ueqyisitjon by the Crown. Mr". Hudson gave the following analysis of the rate levy: — Generai raio, £^3 'I? 3 ; hospital rate, £9364; Mariawatu' Catchment Board rate, £13,38; ?un#y sepgrate rates, £-1599 ; sundry special rates, £698; total, £36,172. The 'generai rates for the pgst nine years and since the last reyalugtion of the county wer,e qu9ted by Mr. Hudson as' follows, the 'evy being giyen in parentheses in each case:— 1939-40, l-l/8d in'the £1 .£19,919) ; 40-41, l-5/64d (£19,240); 41-42, l-5064d (£19,34$) ; 42.-43, l-5/64d (£19,402) 43-44, f-5/64d (£19,407) ; 44-45, l-5/64d (£19, ©33); 45-46, l-5/64d (£19,66?) ; 46-47, l-15/64d (£22,824); 47-48, l-15/.64d (£23,11.2).
