Second Stator For Hydro Works A second synchronous condenser stator weighing 48-2- tons has been unloaded from the Kaimata and moved to Ngahapranga, where it will remain until the flrst "stator, which was rpoyed la^- month, ls taken off the giant road conyeyor at Paekakariki., At Paekakariki the units will be transferred to a heavy duty railway transporter for delivery to the State Hydro-Electric Department's power distributing station at Bunnythorpe. The flrst condenser, which left Wellington on May 22, has been languishing at Paekakariki for nearly three weeks. Last Year's Immigration A total of 9648 immigrants, 1137 of whom were assisted, arrived in New Zealand dqring the year which ended on March 31. Permanent departures of New Zealanders from the country in the period amounted to 5768, giving an immigrant gain of nearly 4000. In the 12 months, however, 10,726 New Zealanders left the Dominion temporarily and temporary re'sidents departing numbered 10,894. Total arrivals during the period were 72,456 and departures were placed at 65,843, These figures are contained in the Monthly Abstract of Statistics for April which was published om Thursday. Publicans' Obliffations This was a difficulty which w:as being lexperienced throughout the length and breadth of New Zealand, said Mr. H. J. Thompson, S.M., when it was mentioned during the Otaki Licensing Coinmittee's meetring in Levin on Friday that a hotel in Otaki w.as ekperiencing trouble in obtaining staff, Sergeant W. Grainger said that he had informed the publican that he wouid haye to make every effort to provide rpr the public. Publicans were giVen the monopoly pf the licensing trade on condition that they adequately catered for the public, qommented Mr .Thompson, and it ahould be brought to their notice.
