Soil Removal From County Roads Not Possible
Tbe council had given a decision in regard to the removal of soil from its roadsides and it would have to be firm. Much as it would like to help the Levin Borough Council, refusals had been made to the R.S.A. and other bodies, and ■ though they did so with regret the ^equest would have to be turned down. This was the comment of the chairman of the Horowhenua County Council, Mr. A. M. Colquhoun, when a letter was received at, a meeting of that bodjr on Wednesday from the Levin Borough Council for permis'sion to remove soil and cLay from the side of Gladstone Road jfor the formation of a cricket pitch bn the Weraroa Reserve. The letter stated that seven samples had been takan in the district and analysed by the Grasslands Division ,of the Department of Scientific and ! Industrial Research, and the soil from Gladstone Road was found to j be the most suitable. If permission to remove the soil was given, the council would guarantee to take it off properly and clean the site up. Permission was declined with regret. _________________
