Coffee"brown with black, green with putty, or off-white ' and grey with touches of yellow are among the hewest combinations, whik duck-egg green and blotting-paper pink are new shades, standing on their own. Lilac-mauves and pale greys ' which look their best in the soft velvour textures, are Widelyused and occasionally a touch of red strikes a vivid contrast. For example, Charles Montaigne favous the raspberry shades, while Baleciaga, who chooses red^or some of his loo'se swagger coats, built on the "tent" or "pyramid" silhouette, also features true orange or tangerine which promises to become a first favourite. Typical is th.e Marcel Rochas model in palest lime green with full unpressed pleats billowing around the hips whei'e a broad black faille ribbon is slotted to tie in a bow on the left side. Other spring woollens in the news include the softer veldursurfaced cloths favoured by Madame Carpentier for a group of dresse's with neither belts nor waistline trimmings. Christian Diof uses black face-cloth with taffetas or faille for striking dinner or cocktail f rocks While black alpaca dramatised with shining trimmings is used in the W.orth collection for .elegant coats and dresses for afternoon and evening.
