BRIGHT SIDE'S CARBINE PLATE VICTORY AT ELLERSLIE
Mr. K. McK. Duncan'js- gelding. Br#ght Side, was ridden conlidently by Mr. A. Nicol in tlie Carbine Plate, at Ellerslie on Monday, and he won by a neck from Jon Rosa in a good fmish. Bright Side aws three horses out for the first three furlongs and tlien went up to second behind the pacemaker, Su' Dulce, (states the New Zealand lier--; *ld). Soon after Jona Rosa moved up from fifth to lead into the straight from Bright Side, Sir Dulce, Tiereel, Town Eeho and Iucitatus. Af the distance Bright Side appeared to hold the measure of Jon Rosa and lnf beat him by a neck. Broiefort Prince finished on for third, two lengths behind Jon Rosa. Town Eeho was fourth,. succeeded by General March and Iucitatus. Te Paerata fell soon after the straight was. reached. Bright Side carricd his vVeight" in good style for a three-year-oid ahd won well. Jon Rosa miglit have been harder to beat if his run had been* delayed.
