Hobbs, wife of Constable Hobbs, has arrived to takc up residence with her husband in Domain Road, Otaki. Miss Jean Taylor, whose engagement'was announced recently, has resigned her position at Dowry's, Mam Street, Ocaki. Her piace has been taken by Miss Doreen Biils. Miss Wells, of the staff of the Bank of New Zealand, Otaki, is on hohday, part of which will be spent in the South Island. A very handsome canteen of cutlery, won by the racehorse First Act, at Wanganui on Saturday, is on disolay at Mr. G. Mann's shop in Main Street, Otaki. Mr. Mann is the owner of First Act. Mr. Brunton, of Main Street, Otaki, who is an inmate of the Palmerston North Hospital, is making steady prcgress, and hopes are entertained that he will be returning to his home in the course of a few more weeks.

Apprentice jockey P. Mullins, who is indentured to Mr. P. Williams, Otaki, received an injury to h.s i head when he fell with Gran'd ' Central in the Century Hurdles ,at I Wanganui on Saturday. Boy's Presence of Mincl Great presence of mind was 'dispiayed by an Otaki lad, Master Donald Grant, who was unfortunate enough to gash his knee with an axe on Saturday afternoon. Donald promptly tore up his smglet and bound up the wound, after which he cycled home and was then convey.ed to the doctor. Stitches were inserte'd and the lad is now little the worse for the mi'shap. j Landmark Disappears A residence which has stood the test of time for upwards of 50 years has disappeared literally overnight from - the corner of Aotaki Street, at the Waerenga Road end. So rapid was the ; demolition that the property of the ioccupants was removed at the one Jand same time as the wall's of the jbuil'ding, and it was a most unusual Isight for Otaki to see items of furniture, suitcases, etc., on the footpath aiong with the timber from the dwelling. Birthday Party Upwards of 25 guests gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bertlesen, Dunstan Street, Otaki Railiway, recently, the occasion being [the birthday -of their daughter, Noeline.
