Government Inertia Over Mountpark Dispute
AUCKLAND, June 8. Althougli the Government 's .intention to form a Tribunal to invcstigate the first Mountpark dispute, was announced by the Ministcr of Labour, Mr. ArcLagan, on Friday, no move in this direction has yet been made. The Arountpark, vvith a cargo of Australian wheat, is still idle at Auckland and this morning five gangs of waterside ; vvorkers, 80 men, were dismissed , under penalty for refusing to lift her i hatches. The proposal to form a Tribunal heatl1 ed by a Judge of the Supreme Coqrt was accepted grudgingiy ■ by the- -New . Zealand Waterside Employers' Association and conditionally by the New Zealand Waterside ; Workers' Union. The Assoeiation lield that the move was "unsat'e aiul* uniiecessary " in view of tlie fact that tlie Waterfront Comniission was legallv constitutea ; a tribunal. The Union 's acceptance has i tlie provision that cranes aj-e used to j lift tlie Mountpark 's hatches so that i Ihe vessol can l)o worke'd now.
