HAAIILTON, June 8. Continuing to play brilliantly over "the last 18 holes of 3G-hole final in the North Island artiateur golf handieap, Jt5, M. Silk gave nothing away -in his niatch with J. Jeffery, to "finish tne game at the 33rd. hole and winning 4 and , 3.. -He reaelied the tuni in 37, one under par, while Jeffery negotiated the same holes in 39. With a liftle iiu-k in his putting Jeffery would have :r..ide the ganie even more interesting but Silk was the better player aud. act'ually the issue was never in doubt. Losing touch in the rniddle stages of the morning round but finding his true form over the last few holes, Jerfery put up a iine, performance to De only 2 down at the eompletion of tfie first 18. The New Plymouth player was 4 down eoining to the 13th and to picx up two holes on the national aniateur i-hampion who was playing steadv golt, was a plendid effort. Jeffery finished the ]ast three holes with two birdies and.a bogey. Beginning the last 18 holes Silk was 2 up and they both found the bunker at the 19th whieh they halved in fonrs. Eaeh was on the green for two at the 20th and they halved the hole in birdie fours. Two good seeonds were played at the next hole and they were down in bogey fours. Jeffery 's opportunity to reduee the lead at the 22nd was nullL fied when Silk stymied him and thehole was halved. A splendid second by Silk at the 23rd wqn/him , the hole arid placed him 3 up and at the next hole both holed long putts, Silk for a birdie three and Jeffery for four. At the next thr'ee holes both played exceilent seeonds and they were down in bogey figures, Silk foujrd a bunker at the 28th and Jeffery followed suit but the latter recovered better and he reeorded bogey figures to Sillt's one over, to make it 3 up. Silk's second at the next hole hit the pin and gave him an easy putt for a birdie' three, Jeffery taking four to be 4 down again. Silk made his first putting error at the next and Jeffery took the hole. However, Jeffery 's second at the next found a bunker and Silk was 4 up again. The short 32- was halved in threes after Silk had played a magnificent approach shot after hooking his drive to the left *of the green, and at the last hole played Jeffery hit his second out of bounds. After a bad lie Silk found a bunker but although he was short when he got out, he stymied Jeffery and the hole was halved.
