Received Tuesday, 7 p.m. LONDON, June 8. Portsmoutli's D Day memorial wliich was unveilefl bv Field 11 arshal Montgomeiy, takes the f orui of a simple wliite stone anti-invasion block. On one side it is engraved: "1940 France and the Low Countries having heeri overrun we laboured alone to ohstruct our eoasts with such blocks as this against invasion by the enemies ot f reedom. ' ' Ou the other it bears this inseription: • 1945 — Yet from tliis very beacli, in the company of powerful Allies, many thousands of our men embarked on the great adventure of liberating Europe and achieved their object." The unveiling eeremony was watehed by 20,000 people ineluding representatives of all three services and of the armed forcos of United States and France. The Mayoi and Couneil of Arromanches, on whose beaches the landing took place, sent a speclal delegation.
